Post Placement Services . . .

Post-placement services may be required for both domestic and international adoption. In both cases, post-placement services are provided by a social worker after the child arrives in your home.  In case of a domestic adoption, the State of Michigan requires two post-placement reports before your adoption is finalized in a Michigan court. In case of an international adoption, requirements differ from country to country. For example, Russian government requires 4 post-placement reports with the following intervals: six, twelve, twenty four and thirty six months after placement. Ukraine wants to see post-placement reports annually until your child reaches 18 years of age. Post-placement requirements for Kazakhstan are very similar to those for Ukraine. China asks for only two reports – at six and twelve months after placement. In some cases, international post-placement reports may be prepared by adoptive parents, without a social worker’s involvement.  Your international placement agency will provide you with the detailed country specific instructions.
